A mother abandoned her healthy baby girl at Central Texas
Medical Center in San Marcos on Monday afternoon. A couple
found the 8-day-old girl in the back of a small truck
in the hospitals parking lot. A young woman was
seen leaving the infant, along with a baby bag and a note
that said she was abandoning the baby and didn't intend
to return. "It just said I can't do this. I've prayed
about it I just need somebody to take care of her, so
take care of her," Karen Morris of CTMC said.
Hospital staff examined the infant, who was healthy. Caretakers
named her Destiny Faith. She's been placed with a foster
family and doctors say she's in good health.
The infant, named Destiny Faith, is healthy and cared
for by a foster family. "This baby looked well cared
for. She smelled like she had a bath. She was healthy
and happy these people cared about her," Morris said.
The infant is protected under the Baby Moses law, in which
a parent can leave their baby at a designated safe place
without facing criminal charges. However, it's best to
take the child into the facility and not leave them unsupervised.
"Take the child inside the facility and turn that
child over to a person. Do not leave it outside exposed
to the elements. You don't know when they will be found.
If you take them inside of a facility you're not going
to be questioned, the child will be taken care of and
you can leave," San Marcos PD Sgt. Penny Dunn said.
Police and hospital officials say Monday's case could
have turned tragic had the baby not been found in time.
However, they believe the young woman who left her made
sure someone was watching before leaving the baby.
